Mission adopts Business Plan to guide future improvements
San Buenaventura Mission is a 240 year-old Catholic Church. One of just 21 California Missions, it functions primarily as an active parish for some 2,000 active member families. Beginning in August 2005, the Parish underwent debilitating leadership transition, with five pastors in six years. Now it is back with renewed energy and vision under the present pastoral leadership.
The addition of a new position, Parish Administrator, provides capacity to step back from the day-to-day activities of Church life and take conscious steps toward Parish renewal and enhancement. With 2013 proclaimed as “The Year of Faith” this can be a year of Parish growth and transformation under the banner of “Siempre Adelante.”
Within the framework of the Church’s Mission Statement, this Business Plan focuses on two primary goals:
- Make our Church a more dynamic force in the spiritual lives of our parishioners.
- Make our Church and our parishioners a more dynamic force in the community.
This Business Plan is not a long-term strategic plan for the Mission. Nor does it deal in detail with Holy Cross School. It is focused on priorities for the coming Fiscal Year 2013-14 which begins July 1. It is a short-term roadmap for tackling the following opportunities:
- Financial Stewardship;
- Community Building and Fellowship;
- Evangelization: Education and Spiritual Enrichment;
- Visibility and Community Outreach;
- Capital Investment
Attached to the Business Plan will be an inventory of current Parish activities, events and ministries. This Business Plan is certainly not intended to impede, curtail or detract from those activities, which have a vitality and validity of their own. It is focused instead on key initiatives that can accomplish the Church’s overall Mission Statement; advance the goals of becoming a more dynamic force in the spiritual lives of parishioners and in the community; and seize the immediate opportunities ahead of us in the next year or so.
